Children are entitled to appropriate, researched and safe medicines

FINPEDMED (the Finnish Investigators Network for Pediatric Medicines), established in 2007, is a non-juridical joint venture of all Finnish university hospitals and pediatric clinics

There are not enough researched and safe medicines for children.

Children’s diseases and responses to medicines differ from adults. That’s why medicines must be researched in children in addition to adults.

The patients and their families have a crucial role in planning and conducting of clinical trials.

It is possible to get novel and safe medicines for children by conducting paediatric clinical trials.

By networking, it is possible to gather the experts together and by that way, reinforce research.

The operation of FINPEDMED network is based on high-level ethical and scientific expertise which is required in planning and conducting of paediatric clinical trials.

FINPEDMED is a joint venture of Finland’s five university hospitals.

FINPEDMED operates in Finland, and additionally manages larger collaborative network Nordic Investigators Network for Pediatric Medicines, NORDICPEDMED, sharing mutual Investigators´Registry and the electronic Service Request portal, which are both administrated by FINPEDMED.

PAEDIATRIC CLINICAL TRIALS IN NORDICS

In Finland and other Nordic countries, all clinical trials, including pediatric trials in children (<18-Years), requires authorization by several regulatory authorities and trial sites before the start. All medical research in humans is regulated by various legal acts, regulations and ethical guidelines.
